True Infinity was a band name first thought up by Marc, for a group that Mike almost joined, Marc's first all-originals band (now know as Odin's Other Eye). The name was inspired by William Blake, describing "true" infinity as a constant replacement of infinite & finite properties, like the world we live in. Mike & Marc found that they were good song collaborators, so they stuck with their on-again, off-again writing relationship, and Marc eventually convinced Mike that TI would stand for a constant replacement of originals & covers, left and/or right wing philosophies, boxers and/or/nor tightie whities, or some such codswallop about the dance of opposing properties ("medleys of cover songs melding seamlessly into derivative original music interspersed with new unusual combinations of musical genres and instrumentation..." as quoted by Rolling Stones Magazine - no, not really!).
Mike (guitar, keys, sometimes bass & vox) is a life-long musician, originally from Broomfield, where he played with the likes of the Basement Blues Band. He hit all-time Denver fame with the group, Talk Radio (see
www.talkradiomusic.com). This eclectic pop/punk/whatchamacallit group got some radio airtime and actually still play together on occasion. To quote their web site, they are older & uglier than ever, but at least they've discovered how to turn the volume knobs down on their equipment now. Mike is an avid biker, skier, motocross racer, and dad of two, so it goes without saying that he doesn't practice!
Marc (vox & guitars) has a bit shorter band career. His first experience really interacting with fellow musicians started in 2005, with Straiter's Cat, a cover band. Straiter's Cat morphed into My Alter Ego, and it was eventually apparent that Marc was not cut out for covers. At the tail end of his dismissal from this group, Marc started searching for some all-original band members. And this is when he learned that fellow soccer dad, Mike, had a band and an injury and also had an MR8, and the rest is TI-story. To add to the TI chaos, Marc also juggles the aforementioned Odin's Other Eye (
www.odinsothereye.com) and is lead vocals for The High Council (
www.myspace.com/theminoritiespage) - he likes to play up his Norwegian and/or native american ancestry(ies), and he also doesn't practice!
Mark (drums) was the next to join the group. Marc called up this fellow expat of Straiter's Cat (MZ didn't see the My Alter Ego days) to see what what he was up to. Not much apparently. More to follow here...
Jim (bass) lives approximately two blocks behind Marc, on Fundy Ave. One day Marc was out walking the streets, trying to locate another neighbor's runaway dog when he ran (or walked) into Jim. Finding the dog was hopeless, but luck was on TI's side in sourcing a new bass player (and, by God, is that job hell!). Jim juggles many life issues as well, but manages to find time to practice (or so he says)! More to follow here also...
If you are interested in setting up a True Infinity fan club, please don't. We have a hard enough time just setting up gigs! But stay tuned...
